Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia(notes) is expected to have a season-ending surgical procedure to insert a screw into his broken left foot Friday, according to The Boston Globe.
Pedroia suffered the injury in late June, returned for two football jerseys
games in mid-August and then went back on the disabled list. He and the team had hoped that additional rest would allow Pedroia to play again this season, but the healing process apparently hasn't been as successful as they had hoped.
If Pedroia indeed opts for surgery, he is expected to be fully recovered by spring training.
In 75 games this season, Pedroia is hitting .288 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs.
