CLEVELAND (AP)—Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown still has a pretty nice stiff arm.
Brown, considered the greatest Brown of them all, informed Cleveland president Mike Holmgren that he will not attend the Sept. 19 ceremony when the team unveils its new ring of honor.

Brown’s decision to skip the event stems from Holmgren removing him as an adviser to owner Randy Lerner. Holmgren, who took over the Browns in December, offered the legendary player a reduced role with the team, a position that Brown declined.
On Monday, Brown sent a letter to Holmgren that was obtained by The Plain Dealer. In it, Brown says he had no formal contract as an adviser with the Browns, and he believes his agreement with Lerner was violated because a clause in it stated he would answer to no one but the owner.
“Your ultimatum to me was that you would offer me the opportunity of being that of the greeter, that of a mascot, that of a person that would represent special events by his physical presence, and for those things, I would receive a salary of $100,000,” Brown wrote. “All of those things that you offered me would be controlled by you.”
The 74-year-old Brown said he returned to his office, feeling as if he had been fired. Brown said he refrained from making his situation a “public debate.” He said he wrote a note to Holmgren and Lerner explaining why he would not accept the proposed position. Redskins jersey
Last week, Holmgren announced plans for the ring of honor at a news conference where he was joined by Hall of Famers Paul Warfield and Joe DeLamielleure, who sat at both sides of the team president. Brown said he studied the press conference and came away with a few impressions.
“Your most powerful statement about me was that, and I must laugh, one monkey don’t stop the show,” Brown wrote.
Holmgren never made such a comment, saying he hoped Brown would join his fellow Hall of Famers for a deserved honor.
“I trust Jim will be there and I hope he’s there because he is a part of this,” Holmgren said. “He’s part of the history of this place, a big part of it. Any way it comes down, it’s going to be a wonderful day. It’s going to be a celebration … It’s going to be a great celebration for all of us and the 16 families on that day and I trust he will be part of it.”
Brown said he was pleased DeLamielleure brought up the need for a better pension plan in the NFL, and urged Holmgren to join him in pushing for both a “better pension plan and health care services for all the retired players. If you, in your position of tremendous power with the Cleveland Browns, would become an advocate of those two goals, you and I could walk side by side.”

Veteran CB finally healthy, returns to practice
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Tennessee veteran cornerback Cortland Finnegan(notes) returned to practice Monday after missing the past three weeks and the first three preseason games with an injured groin and hip flexor.
Finnegan has started 47 of his 61 games in his first four seasons, and the Titans are counting on matching him up nfl throwback jerseys

Hudson’s 13 Ks, Prado’s 5 RBIs lead Braves
ATLANTA (AP)—No way the Braves were blowing this big lead. Not with Tim Hudson(notes) on the mound.
Hudson struck out a career-high 13 and Martin Prado(notes) equaled his career best with five RBIs, powering Atlanta to a 12-3 rout of nfl jerseys the Florida Marlins on Saturday night.

He struck out the first two Florida hitters to prevent a repeat of Friday night’s debacle, when Tommy Hanson(notes) served up back-to-back homers to start the game. Those first two Ks gave Hudson 1,500 for his career, earning a long cheer from the Turner Field crowd.
He stepped off the mound, tipped his hat and smiled as the milestone was noted on the giant videoboard behind him.
“It’s definitely something I’m proud of,” Hudson said. “But it’s definitely not something I’m known for.”
It was on this night. Hudson closed with a flourish, fanning the side in the seventh to eclipse his previous career best of 12 strikeouts.
Florida went down swinging all but once against Hudson, who has put up double-digits Ks only 11 times in 337 career starts. His previous season high was seven.
“His sinker is dirty,” Florida’s Chad Tracy(notes) said. “You think you’re on it, and then you aren’t.”
The Braves blew this one open early, sending 11 hitters to the plate in the second against Ricky Nolasco(notes) (14-9). Prado had a bases-loaded walk to account for his first RBI of Atlanta Falcons jersey the night. Nolasco was replaced at the start of the third, having allowed seven hits and three walks in his shortest start of the season. He had skipped his previous turn because of a torn meniscus in his right knee, but said he felt fine and that had nothing to do with his dismal outing.
“I didn’t throw anything where I wanted to,” Nolasco said. “I didn’t have it tonight. There’s not much you can do. I’m not making any excuses. I just didn’t do the job.”
The Marlins also played some shoddy defense, even though they were charged with only one error. In addition to the liner off Sanchez, McCann picked up a gift single when shortstop Hanley Ramirez(notes) couldn’t find a popup in short left. Ramirez did recover in time to throw out Prado, trying to score all the way from first.

CLEVELAND (AP)—Asdrubal Cabrera(notes) pointed to his wife in the stands as he watched his first game-ending home run sail over the wall.
Cabrera led off the bottom of the 10th inning with his third homer of football jerseys the year to give the Cleveland Indians a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.
