30 Dec 10 NBA Fourth Quarter Report: Playoff Preview and Regular Season Awards

Chris Graythen/Getty ImagesAs another long NBA season winds down, it is exciting to see so many teams playing at such a high level. The Utah Jazz did get beaten by the Lakers, but that was a more important game for LA and Kobe Bryant led his squad to a statement win.The statement is that the Lakers are not ready to give up the West just yet. This is the deepest the West has looked in the last few seasons and the West has looked deep for the past few seasons. It looks like every playoff team in the West will have 50 wins so every round could be Reebok Minnesota Vikings #69 Jared Allen Realtree camo Jersey
a battle for the team who wins the West. The Lakers, as the one seed, look to be the favorite still but Dallas, Utah, Phoenix, Oklahoma City and San Antonio are all peaking at the right time.Denver is struggling with injuries and that is a shame for the team that looked poised to make a run only a month ago. Portland even making the playoffs is very impressive as they have dealt with injuries all year long. The East looks like a two-team race with Cleveland and Orlando headed for an Eastern Conference Finals re-match.Boston has the grit and experience but they have also looked old all season. Atlanta is loaded with talent but has had trouble with the East's top two teams all year long. The Hawks have had fourth-quarter leads in three games with Cleveland and are 0-3 against them this year.Josh Smith did make a buzzer-beating slam to give the Hawks a win over Orlando recently, so perhaps they can build upon that if the two meet in the second round.Milwaukee has been playing at a high level and could push a team in the first round. Cleveland would like to skip Charlotte, as the Bobcats haveproven to be a match-up nightmare for the Cavs this season. When the long NBA regular season started, it looked like there was a collision course of the Cavs versus the Lakers in the NBA Finals. Those two are still the favorites but it nice to see so many teams playing quality basketball as the playoffs finally arrive.Regular Season AwardsAll-NBA First Team:Guard: Deron WilliamsGuard: Kobe BryantForward: LeBron Reebok New England Patriots #12 Tom Brady Realtree camo Jersey

Cavs fans can be allowed to expect the worst but they should also hope for the best.An article by Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi raised interest in that liberal rag when he wrote that Kevin Durant was the second-best player in the NBA. Durant is on his way, but my second-place vote for MVP would go to Kobe Bryant.NBA Defensive Player of the Year: Dwight HowardComparisons to Bill Russell are apt for this defensive force. If he adds the offensive game, then he will be an NBA MVP one day.NBA Sixth Man of the Year: Jamal CrawfordA great signing by the Hawks, Crawford will make his first postseason appearance this year. He leads the league in fourth-quarter minutes and like Dwight Howard for defensive player of the year, Crawfordis the runaway winner for sixth man of the year. NBA Rookie of the Year: Stephon CurryDrafted into a great system for his skill set, Curry was more consistent than Brandon Jennings and took advantage of an injury to Tyreke Evans.NBA Most Improved Player: Andrew BogutThe former No. 1 overall pick, due to injuries and inconsistent play, was in danger of getting the bust label. He turned it around this year and has the Bucks in the playoffs.Shawn Marion helped the Mavericks this season after a few down years. J.J. Hickson has also been a very improved player for the Cavs.NBA Coach of the Year: Scott BrooksWe all knew that the Thunder was young and talented, so Brooks gets a lot of credit for turning them into a playoff team.Mike Woodson has been a steady force in Atlanta and I think that Phil Jackson is always one of the best coaches in the game.NBA Executive of the Year: Danny FerryAfter the disappointment of the East Finals last year, Ferry brought in Shaquille O'Neal, Anthony Parker, and Jamario Moon to address the Reebok New Orleans Saints #9 Drew Brees Realtree camo Jersey
match-up problems posed by the Magic. Then he gets Antawn Jamison, plus a vacation for Zydrunas Ilgauskas.Whatever LeBron James decides to do in the off-season, Cavs fans can say that Danny Ferry did everything in his power to keep him in Cleveland.

29 Dec 10 The Chicago Bulls Will Beat the Cleveland Cavaliers

.in one or two games...when Hell freezes over. The Chicago Bulls clinched the eighth and final playoff spot in the final game of the season, defeating the Charlotte Bobcats 98-89 on Wednesday night and setting up a date with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs.Although the Cavs most likely would have rather stayed away from Derrick Rose and what seems to be a healthy Joakim Noah for a Chris Bosh-less Toronto Raptors team, the Cavs are most likely not shaking in their shoes at the sight of the Bulls. Then again, the New York Giants jersey
Cavs have been known to shake in their shoes against the Bulls, but it was for dancing purposes, which did not please Joakim Noah. More on that later. The Bulls are seemingly in a nothing-to-lose situation essentially getting Rose and Noah more playoff experience along with rookie Taj Gibson to go along with playing in the public eye, perhaps to lure a free agent for next season. When you put a young team in a nothing-to-lose situation, you may actually run into a fly that won't go away. The Bulls and Cavaliers are surprisingly tied in the season series this year 2-2. Granted, the Bulls wins came by a combined two points including the last meeting, which didn't include LeBron James where Mo Williams was unstoppable scoring 35 points on 12-of-24 shooting along with 10 assists.Winning by one point over a LeBron-less Cavs' team is not a good sign for the Bulls. The Cavs wins came by a 14-point dancing massacre and a a seven-point beating. Keep in mind, however, the Cavs seven-point win came against a Bulls' team missing Rose, Noah, and Luol Deng. The Bulls have never been able to stop James, but the team has kept him human. The key for the Bulls to put a scare into the Cavs is by limiting James and shutting down the supporting cast.Sounds easy enough. In the Bulls one win vs. a healthy Cavs team, including Shaq, the Bulls held Mo Williams to just 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting. In the Bulls' loss by 14 in the next meeting, Williams scored 15, Anderson Varejao scored 10, and Daniel Gibson scored 15 on combined 16-of-31 shooting. That simply can't happen. This is essentially white noise based on the fact he can do anything, but in the three games James has played against the Bulls this season, he has not scored 30 points. The Bulls have "held" James to 23, 25, and 29 points, respectively, on 26-of-55 shooting.Deng can give James fits...well, at least keep him somewhat human.None of this has included Antawn Jamison, however. The Bulls are yet to see a Cavs' starting lineup includingNew York Jets jersey
Shaq, Jamison, and James. This could be the factor that kills the Bulls.Gibson and Noah cannot beat Shaq and Jamison down low at the same time. It's physically impossible for them.Noah needs to be free to double-team James along with Deng, but if Shaq is actually relevant, then James will be free to run wild.Even if Shaq is nowhere to be found, the Bulls will have to now worry about Jamison, who has dropped a 34-point, 18-rebound performance along with a 23-point, six-rebound performance against the Bulls this season with the Wizards and Cavs, respectively. The Bulls will have to limit Shaq and Jamison to have any chance. Not too much to ask.The Cavs simply have too many weapons, but at the same time, Cleveland probably wanted an easier first-round matchup than the Bulls. You never know what Derrick Rose is going to do and the fact Kirk Hinrich is shooting better than 50 percent from the field in his last five games, gives the Bulls an actual outside threat. Some times a team with nothing to lose is the scariest.Media Scum Oakland Raiders jersey
StorylineJoakim Noah and LeBron James have a publicized feud starting from James feeling the need to dance during a shellacking of the Bulls. No way First Take, First and Ten, Rome is Burning, Around the Horn, PTI, and perhaps even The View beat this storyline into the ground...Sidenote: Yes, that is Aaron Gray in the video and yes, he did actually own a jersey for the Bulls. Only to be worn, however, when the Bulls were losing by 19 or more.

28 Dec 10 Mike Bibby, the Atlanta Hawks' Fatal Flaw

Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesAn interesting article by John Hollinger(published on ESPN website) surfaced on Tuesday taking note on how excellent point guard play has taken over in the 2010 NBA Playoffs. The standout performances from Steve Nash and Deron Williams have dominated the majority of the headlines save for the usual media tendencies towards LeBron, Kobe, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard. However, the most blatant representation of the pivotal role that point guards have played in this postseason could be found during a blowout of New England Patriots jersey
epic proportions.114-71 proportions, that is.Here is a list of the remaining points guards in the NBA Playoffs, along with their playoff numbers. See if you can piece together the clues:DW : 25.6 points, 49% FG, 10.9 assists, 1.14 steals, 2.71 turnovers, 2.3 reboundsSN : 17.6 points, 51% FG, 9.9 assists, .14 steals, 4.57 turnovers, 2.3 reboundsRR : 16.3 points, 46% FG, 11.7 assists, 2 steals, 3.43 turnovers, 5.6 reboundsTP : 17.3 points, 48% FG, 5.3 assists, .86 steals, 1.71 turnovers, 3.4 reboundsMW : 14.6 points, 40% FG, 5.6 assists, .57 steals, 1.86 turnovers, 2.9 reboundsJN : 22.8 points, 51% FG, 4.5 assists, 2 steals, 1.6 turnovers, 2.4 reboundsDF : 10.1 points, 45% FG, 3.3 assists, 1.57 steals, 2.43 turnovers, 2.4 reboundsMB : 9.9 points, 44% FG, 2.9 assists, 1.4 turnovers, .8 steals, 3.1 reboundsThe last player on this list: Mike Bibby. The Atlanta Hawks, after being taken to a Game 7 by an undermanned Milwaukee Bucks squad in the first round, took an embarrassing blow from the Orlando Magic to the tune of a 114-71 Game 1 beating in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The reason for the Hawks struggles in both series to date: Mike Bibby (er, point guard play). It is hard to place a 40-something point blowout on any one player, but the fact is that the Hawks are in dire need of a point guard who can control the tempo and pace of a game. At the present moment, there are three potent talents (Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Al Horford) playing the game with zero purpose on the offensive end of the floor. There is a reason Bibby is averaging the fewest points and assists of these eight remaining point guards. He is no longer a scorer or play-maker in this league, plain and simple. The fact of the matter is that there are two point guards left in New Orleans Saints jersey
these playoffs who can no longer take over a game, with those players being Mike Bibby and the Lakers Derek Fisher. The others referenced above Nash, Williams, Parker, Jameer Nelson, Mo Williams, and Rajon Rondo all provide their teams with a better chance to win and possess the ability to get hot, for lack of a better phrase. The difference in Bibby and Fisher? One post-30-year-old player happens to be conveniently placed on arguably the most talented and seasoned team in the league. The Lakers overall assortment of talent is able to hide the inefficiencies in Fisher overall game, especially defensively (although don tell that to Russell Westbrook).Even when an opposing guard, such as Westbrook, proves too quick or strong for Fisher to handle defensively, the Lakers are able to switch defensive assignments or bring in solid backups Jordan Farmar and Shannon Brown.Offensively, the Lakers just need Fisher to hit open threes and toss the ball to Kobe, Pau Gasol, or Andrew Bynum. Simple. The Hawks lack these luxuries, to say the least.Bibby could fill in Fisher role admirably, but Atlanta simply needs more from the position on both ends of the floor. When Bibby gets beaten off the dribble for seven straight games, nearly 48 minutes each game by the Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings, there is little the Hawks can do to stop the bleeding. Bringing in sixth-man Jamal Crawford provides a much-improved offensive spark to the Hawks game, but he could be even worse defensively (if possible).Bibby offensive numbers had been lackluster for the majority of the playoffs, with his best game being a 19-point outburst in Game 1 against the Bucks, before laying an absolute egg in the Magic Game 1 blowout (two points, three assists in New York Giants jersey
19 minutes) which, for head coach Mike Woodson, should be the last straw. With the way the team dynamic and talent is set up, Atlanta needs something more thanjust a fill-in veteran as a floor general. There was once a time when Mike Bibby could run a team efficiently and give them a great opportunity to advance through the playoffs. Heck, once upon a time his old Kings' teams could have been NBA champions had it not been for the Shaq and Kobe dynasty. But those days have long gone. And if the Hawks do not find answers soon to their pointless guard play, they will not even register as a speed bump on a team trip to the Eastern Conference Finals. What that called? Oh yeah,dj vu.

27 Dec 10 The Phoenix Suns Should Give It All

Harry How/Getty ImagesA fall from the third floor hurt as much as a fall from the hundredth or like my close friend always say A wife rant from 12am is basically the same rant around 3am so why hurry (But around 3 am the plates and jars are already flying).Grant Hill, the Phoenix Suns forward scored a breakout offensive outing with 23 points making 10 out of 17 shooting, but it wasn enough to hold the Los Angeles Lakers 124-112 game two destruction. There were no answers for Kobe in fact there was no answer for the Lakers offense. Denver Broncos jersey
Kobe scored 40 points in game one and when they double-teamed Bryant in game two, Kobe scored 21 points and dished out 13 assists in return. Goran Dragic was a revelation in the playoffs but he wasn noticeable on the series. Steve Nash is still a consistent scoring and passing threat but at 36 years old with an ailing back, Nash needs a lot of help from his teammates. So where does Phoenix go from here? The series is still far from over and the Suns have two games coming up on their own turf. Winning two games straight might not be that possible against the Lakers but still it a possibility and all Phoenix has to do is to play one game at a time and play as hard as they can. Nash, Stoudemire and Hill are only a fraction of a pie, the whole team should play as a unit and Detroit Lions
they should play a perfect game to score a win against the defending champion Lakers. To put it bluntly everybody doubted them if they can win this series against the Lakers, not with Kobe being healthy or the talent and length of the Lakers but I hope they still put on a good fight. In both games the Suns made it a close game for 3 quarters before faltering in the last quarter, if only they can sustain their offense and tighten their defense It looks like June would be a green and yellow banner for the NBA reviving the rivalry between Boston and Green Bay Packers jersey
LA. There is still hope left for the Suns even though the chances are becoming a bit gloomy. There are two sides of a coin and in a game there are winners and losers but even if it a losing effort at least they tryLesson? Give it all. Itll hurt just the same

26 Dec 10 Boston Celtics Set the Stage for a 2008 Revival: Can the LA Lakers Join Them?

Stephen Dunn/Getty ImagesThe Boston Celtics' series clinching, Game Six victory over the Orlando Magic was the first step to a much-anticipated rematch of the 2008 NBA Finals, and now it's up to the Los Angeles Lakers to see if they can join them. The Lakers' task will not be simple as they must head to Phoenix and face a very confident Suns' team, who feels they had every chance to win Game Five in Los Angeles. An answered prayer from Ron Artest off of an errant Kobe Bryant shot gave the Lakers a 3-2 advantage in the series, and Reebok Pittsburgh Steelers James Harrison Realtree camo Jersey
this will be the third time Los Angeles has had the opportunity to close out an opponent on the road. But, the Lakers' victories over Oklahoma City and Utah are not similar to the Phoenix series because Los Angeles defeated Oklahoma City decisively in Game Five before eeking out a victory in Game Six, and they swept the Jazz in four games. The Suns have the veteran experience the young Thunder team didn't, and Phoenix's use of various zone defenses have helped diminish the huge size advantage the Lakers have in the post.If the Lakers can find a way to dispose of the Suns, they will join the Celtics in a Finals series most Los Angeles fans have hoped for since the Lakers were humiliated in 2008.The images of that inglorious defeat are still fresh in the memories of most, as are the words of Paul Pierce, who belittled the Lakers' championship of 2009 by saying it was illegitimate because Los Angeles didn't defeat Boston for the title. The Lakers would love nothing more than a chance to silence Pierce, and if they Reebok San Francisco 49ers #21 Frank GORE Realtree camo Jersey
should advance, Los Angeles would have the privilege of beginning the series from the comforts of the Staples Center. But, Phoenix comes first, and the Lakers can't afford to get complacent in Game Six, because a poor showing could give the Suns even more confidence if a Game Seven becomes necessary. The most important thing for the Lakers is to bring the same type of defensive intensity they did in Game Five, and they must attack Phoenix's zone in the same manner. The Suns are the best offensive team in basketball, so completely stopping them is impossible, but the Lakers have been successful when they have managed to obstruct Steve Nash's vision in the passing lanes. The pick and roll offense has been the Suns' best weapon, but the Lakers were able to counter it by swarming Nash in the lane, and then cutting off Amar'e Stoudemire's path to the basket, and collapsing around him.The Suns' reserves have been spectacular in the Suns' previous victories in Phoenix, and in Game Five in Los Angeles, and the Lakers can't afford to let them repeat their performance in Game Sixespecially Channing Frye and Jared Dudley, each of whose three point shooting allowed the Suns to trim huge deficits in Game Five, and almost send the game to overtime. The Reebok Washington Redskins #98 ORAKPO Realtree camo Jersey
Suns will not lie down for Game Six and they will have the emotional advantage of the home crowd, so the Lakers must play focused with the intent of ending the series in this game. It's easy to get caught looking ahead, especially when the Finals opponent will be the hated Celtics, but the Lakers must understand they are still in the thick of a series that is still very much up in the air.

25 Dec 10 New Jersey Nets: Travis Outlaw On Verge Of Losing Starting Job

Elsa/Getty ImagesAccording to NorthJersey.com, the New Jersey Nets are going to make a change to their starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Dallas Mavericks. It is believed that the man losing his job will be Travis Outlaw, who has been terribly inconsistent in his brief time with the team.Over his last 10 games, Outlaw has been abysmal, shooting 34.3 percent from the field and 25 percent on threes while averaging just 9.5 PPG. His shot selection has also been bad as, despite his low three-point field goal percentage, he settles for long-range Reebok Chicago Bears #54 Brian Urlacher Realtree camo Jersey
jumpers and does not make strong moves to the basket all too frequently. His defense has also left much to be desired. Along with his poor rebounding numbers (3.3 RPG on the season), it is probably the main reason he could soon find himself on the bench.Coach Avery Johnson would not give away more than saying there would be a shake up, but all signs point to rookie Damion James getting the starting nod.Over the same 10 game stretch where Outlaw has struggled, James, when playing at least 15 minutes, has averaged 5.5 RPG and provides much better defensive effort. In New Jersey's last game against Atlanta, James had his best performance as a pro, scoring 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting, grabbing six rebounds and showing much more resistance when defending Josh Smith than Outlaw. If James does indeed get the starting nod, who should get the most minutes at the small forward spot?If James does indeed get the starting nod, who should get the most minutes at the small forward spot?Damion James33.0%Travis Outlaw3.4%Terrence Williams63.6%Total votes: 88Johnson reportedly raved about James after the game, and at the same time expressed displeasure with Outlaw.James has had a bit of trouble getting his shot to drop early in the season, but in his senior year at Reebok Chicago Bears #6 Jay Cutler Realtree camo Jersey
Texas he shot over 50 percent from the field and scored 18 PPG. He also showed his ability to crash the boards, pulling down more than 10 RPG.With Terrence Williams also returning to action Thursday, it's unclear what the rotation will be or who will get the most minutes, although this seems like the right move.James has simply out-worked and out-hustled Outlaw, the qualities Johnson is placing an emphasis on.As a fan, I'm happy to see James get his shot and to see Outlaw getting moved to the bench. Outlaw has shown throughout his career that it's where he belongs and I've been calling for him to be relegated to back up status for some time now.James also deserves a chance to prove himself with the way he's played recently. As a person, I always feel somewhat bad whenever a guy gets demoted in this way, but as anyone who has tried out for a team can tell you, the world of sports is a cold one. Either you can produce or you can't, and if you're unable to there's always someone waiting to take your place.Outlaw doesn't appear to be a bad Reebok Dallas Cowboys #82 Jason Witten Realtree camo Jersey
person, he's just not getting it done.Sending Williams to the D-League recently sent him a message and got him to clean up his act. Perhaps the same can happen for Outlaw. If not, hopefully James and Williams can be the young sparks this team needs.

24 Dec 10 No Respect for LeBron James

Marc Serota/Getty ImagesRon Artest has come out and announced that after Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant is the next best player in the league. Now, Durant is a truly remarkable player but I think this is just Artest trying to stir up some drama. There has been so much hype and attention given to the Miami Heat that I think Artest just wants everyone to remember who the champs are. Nobody has forgotten that the Lakers repeated, but the idea of having LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on one team is somewhat mind Reebok Minnesota Vikings #4 Brett Favre Realtree camo Jersey
boggling.Either way, James is definitely getting highly criticized for this move.In the preseason MVP votes, LeBron only received one vote out of 28. It seems as if the NBA GMs are predicting the young Kevin Durant to be hoisting the MVP trophy, with Kobe in secondplace. LeBron went from being the back-to-back MVP winner to being a long shot for the award. How does this make sense? It seems as if LeBron’s decision to team up with another elite player in Wade has left people thinking less of him. My question is, what if the Heat end up winning 60 plus games this season. They have averaged 45 wins in the past two seasons and although Bosh is a big name player, the reason for the increase in wins will most likely be LeBron’s presence. So now doesn’t an increase of 15 plus games signify that LeBron is a value player to that organization?I am not saying that LeBron should be the MVP favorite, plus I do kind of like Durant’s chances. My only point is that maybe people should not take LeBron so lightly and stop looking down on him for his decision to join the Miami Heat. Pau Gasol is one of the top big men in the league and yet Kobe is still strongly considered for the MVP award and therefore LeBron deserves Reebok Minnesota Vikings #69 Jared Allen Realtree camo Jersey
similar respect.Who knows what will happen with LeBron and the Miami Heat, maybe they will hit the 70 win mark. I also think Durant will lead the Thunder past the Lakers this year, but maybe Kobe will get the three-peat.All I know is that it is going to be a crazy season and only time will tell who the true MVP is but maybe all these doubters should not count LeBron out just yet.

23 Dec 10Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Hornets Pull Off 5 Player Blockbuster Deal

Peja Stojakovic and his expiring contract are heading to Toronto.Chris Graythen/Getty ImagesThe Toronto Raptors have acquired Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless from the New Orleans Hornets for Jarrett Jack, Marcus Banks, a trade exception and David Andersen. The deal will actually be constructed as Indianapolis Colts jersey
two separate deals to navigate around NBA rules that restrict the Hornets from trading Bayless in a multi-player deal. Both teams are going in opposite directions this season and Toronto addressed a major need by acquiring a young, dynamic point guard and the Hornets addressed a need by acquiring a capable point guard who can also double as a shooting guard.Trade Analysis:New Orleans HornetsThe Hornets acquire the Toronto Raptors’ starting point guard and Jarrett Jack, and have added some much needed veteran depth behind superstar Chris Paul. They managed to squeeze some value out of Peja Stojakovic’s expiring contract and addressed a major need, as they had to contend with a Chris Paul injury late last season. The Hornets are a reinvigorated team this season, and this move makes them even stronger.Marcus Banks will add some point guard depth as well, but was included more for his expiring deal than for his skill. Banks is a candidate to be traded by this year's trade deadline, as the Hornets will be looking to acquire more depth for their playoff push.David Andersen can play spot minutes behind the talented Emeka Okafor, but doesn't figure to get more than 10-15 minutes a night once he gets acclimated with the offense. Jarryd Bayless is Jacksonville Jaguars jersey

Both had to give up someone they probably did not really want to in Jack and Bayless, but both teams will walk away feeling satisfied with this deal.If I am a New Orleans fan, I'm upset, as I would feel the Hornets could have got more for such a large expiring contract, and that Bayless probably has a brighter future than Jarrett Jack. Stojakovic that we can use as the trade deadline approaches to further improve our team for the future. This was a win-win for both of the franchises, we are just not sure the die-hard fans in New Orleans will feel the same. This article can also be found at Raptors Digest.

Chris Bosh: No One Realizes Why Chicago Can't Do a Sign and Trade

Streeter Lecka/Getty ImagesChris Bosh has made it clear to everyone involved that he wants a max deal through a sign and trade to make up for his lack of endorsement money. The Bulls have made it clear they are trying to package Chris Bosh with LeBron James or Dwyane Wade. Most scenarios published have San Francisco 49ers jersey
the Bulls signing either Wade or James to a max contract - worth $97 million over 5 years - then offering something in a sign and trade with Toronto for Chris Bosh. The only way the sign and trade deal could work is if a third team steps in to the picture and the Raptors get someone they actually like (read: not Luol Deng). This all seems to make sense until you look at the most crucial aspect of the deal.WHY SIGN AND TRADE CANNOT WORK: Look at the values of the contracts being offered:Wade/LeBron $97 mil for 5 yearsBosh $125.5 mil for 6 yearsSee the problem here? There is absolutely no way LeBron James or Dwyane Wade will come to a new team and make less than anybody else on the roster. With the Larry Bird Exception, teams have an advantage signing their own players by offering them a significant amount more than anyone else. So that would mean Dwyane Wade stays in Miami for his max money. Miami could do a sign and trade for Bosh and have two maxed players at 6 years and $125.5 million. Seattle Seahawks jersey
This would effectively torpedo the Heat since they'd be paralyzed under the weight and length of those contracts, unable to do much besides sign players at the minimum.Let's make one thing clear - players are in this for the money. Unless a player is at the tail end of his career (Karl Malone, Gary Payton), they will not take less than they can get to join a team with a chance of winning a championship. So this becomes less a question of who will get 2 out of the big 3, it's who will be hurt more by massive, long term contracts. The Heat have put themselves in the best position financially to sign two free agents, and they are also in the worst position to win after they sign those two.The Bulls, improbably, are in the best position of any team since they offer a playoff team (barely). However, they are in the unenviable position of convincing Chris Bosh to take the 5 year $82.8 million deal in the name of winning. And let's make no mistake about it, LeBron and Wade both view Bosh as the missing piece for them (whether you believe that or not is up for debate). So who is going to give here? Wade and James will never take less than Bosh, so it's up to CB4 to back down.Unless Bosh agrees to the 5 year max contract, this could end badly for a lot of teams as each decision St. Louis Rams jersey
causes an avalanche from Utah to Miami, New York to Houston. It's time to see if these players can restore our faith in them again, if they really are about winning a championship. Otherwise, we're back to cheering for a bunch of greedy guys in shorts who horde the ball like they do their money. For even more basketball analysis, CLICK HERE

Cliff Lee Shows Philly Brotherly Love As The Prodigal Son Returns

Cliff Lee pitching in the 2009 World Series, will look to get the Phillies back in 2011Jed Jacobsohn/Getty ImagesOn June 29, 2009 a love affair started between a left handed pitcher and a team looking for back to back titles; just six months later the relationship was over.Cliff Lee, who had been dealt to the Phillies for four prospects, was dealt to the Mariners and the fans of Philadelphia haven’t let it go.For the past year, radio stations, news papers, blogs and just casual water cooler talk in the city have cursed the Phillies for letting Lee go. The city of Reebok Chicago Bears #54 Brian Urlacher Realtree camo Jersey
brotherly love showed Lee the love, and at a little past midnight on December 14th, he showed it right back. Most people that had been following Cliff Lee knew that he was headed into free agency looking to cash in. The general consensus was that Lee would look to take his talents to the big apple and team up with his former Indians teammate C.C. Sabathia. If it wasn’t going to be the Yankees, it would surely be the Texas Rangers, the team that swept in and stole Lee from the Yankees grasp during the 2010 trade deadline. But after the winter meetings had come and gone, and Cliff hadn’t signed with the Yankees, speculation started swirling that maybe Lee wasn’t going to be wearing Yankees pinstripes.Maybe it wasn’t all about the money with Cliff Lee; maybe the situation in New York and his wife really put a bad taste in his mouth.Even as Lee played the waiting game, most still figured it was a two horse race. That is until Sports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman reported that there was a “third mystery team in the Lee sweepstakes. Those four….I mean who’s gonna beat them?!”But still being in a race and being able to win are two different things. And Phillies fans knew full well that Lee returning would mean he would have to leave a bunch of money on the table, and tell New York “no thanks” something they aren’t used to hearing. As the thought of the magical rotation started to swirl about, the news finally hit the wire.“Cliff Lee has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement to return to the Phillies for a reported five year deal in the 120 million dollar range.” MLB.Com’s T.R. Sullivan broke the story. So, there you have it baseball fans: The greatest rotation in possibly baseball history has been put in place. Not since the 1971 Orioles rotation that featured four 20 game winners has a rotation been this dominant.A rotation that will feature the reigning NL Cy Young winner (Halladay), a former World Series MVP (Hamels), a former AL Cy Young award winner (Lee) and last but not least a three-time All-Star and a former NLCS MVP (Roy Oswalt).Lee has left around $50 million on the table to once again don Phillies pinstripes. In the day and age of greed, it’s amazing to see a baseball player leave that amount of money and take a lesser deal.$100 million, of course, is nothing to shake a stick at but it is certainly close to, if not the most money ever left on the table.A day before the one year anniversary of him leaving Philadelphia, the prodigal son has returned. His five year deal will likely bring with it free drinks and dinners for life.I bashed Cliff Lee, thought he was trying to save face by saying he liked his time in Philadelphia and thought he would take the money and run.I said countless times, “ and I can say that I love being wrong. After seeing Jayson Werth take the money, I would have been happy to see Lee go anywhere but the Yankees. To see a player tell the evil empire no is Reebok Dallas Cowboys #82 Jason Witten Realtree camo Jersey
simply amazing, but then to have that player return is even better.I said a lot of bad things about Cliff Lee this past year and because of it, I will be eating crow for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And I couldn’t be happier.

20 Dec 10 Nebraska Vs. Oklahoma: Are the Cornhuskers or Sooners the Best Tailback Factory?

Brian Bahr/Getty ImagesWhich college football program has produced the most outstanding running backs? I’d vote USC No. 1. Oklahoma State, based on my objective and subjective research, could be No. 2.OSU churned out All-American Thurman Thomas and 1988 Heisman Trophy winner Barry Sanders. They were teammates from 1986-87. After Thomas graduated, Sanders became the starter in his junior season. As ajuking juniorin ‘88, Sanders set the NCAA single-season rushing record (2,628 yards). After having one of the greatest NCAA individual seasons ever, he performed even better in the NFL.NFL teams have long been drafting tailbacks from the University of Nebraska and the University of Reebok New York Giants #27 Brandon Jacobs Realtree camo Jersey Oklahoma’s tailbacks have been getting drafted since the 1950s. I consider the Sooners to have produced the better backs, but let’s find out what research reveals.Texas deserves to be mentioned in the conversation. Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams did a lot of fine running and cutting for the Longhorns. A few other programs—Auburn and Georgia for example—deserve mentioning, but it’s clear, after narrowing down the top 10 or 15 schools, that Nebraska and Oklahoma may not rank No. 1, but they still have had a lot of great backs. The USC Trojans had O.J. Simpson, Charles White, Anthony Davis and Marcus Allen. Did I forget to mention Frank Gifford, John Arnett and Mike Garrett (USC’s first Heisman Trophy winner)? No.Eric Francis/Getty ImagesBarring Reggie Bush’s no-no, four different Trojan running backs have won a Heisman. Garret (1965), Simpson (1968), White (1979) and Allen (1981) all won it. Bushbecame the fifth bywinning the Heisman in 2005, but he vacated it.Furthermore, four USC running backs havefinished second in the voting over the years since the Heisman Trophy was crafted (1935).The Heisman is sometimes awarded on a Saturday and won by one of the schools known for running backs. On Saturday, Nebraska and Oklahoma—speaking of schools known for running backs—play their last game in the Big 12. The Big Ten welcomes Nebraska next season. Oklahoma is remaining in the Big 12 for the foreseeable future. The ground game rivalry between OU and NU evaporated since the wishbone triple option faded. The passing game helped to steady the future of OU under Bob Stoops. The Huskers are still more of a "ground chuck" offense.Leading the pack of NU and OU runners this year, Roy Helu Jr. and DeMarco Murray both set records this season. I don’t believe either Helu or Murray will be voted All-Americans, but both schools boast a plethora of past All-Americans.Cornhuskers All-Americans Reebok New York Jets #6 Mark Sanchez Realtree camo Jerseyat I-back and halfback are Jeff Kinney (1971), Jarvis Redwine (1980), Bobby Reynolds (1950) and Mike Rozier (1982-83), the only I-back to own a Heisman Trophy (1983).Doug Pensinger/Getty ImagesOU All-American half backs include Adrian Peterson (2004), Billy Simms (1978-79), Joe Washington (1975) and Steve Owens (1969). Gregg Pruitt made the team in 1971 and in 1972.Billy Vessels and Buck McPhail (1952), Tommy McDonald (1955-56), Clendon Thomas (1956-57) and Steve Owens (1969) are other OU All-Americans.Vessels became the first of three halfbacks for the Sooners to win the Heisman Trophy. Steve Owens (’69) and Billy Simms (‘78) are the other two. He’s the last of the Oklahoma tailbacks to do it.Joe Washington rushed for over 4,000 yards in his Sooners career. His tailback mate on the 1974 AP National Championship squad, Elvis Peacock, was drafted 20th in the NFL draft in 1978.Marcus Dupree lasted only one season at OU (1982). He is still regarded as one of the most talented tailbacks to ever run the ball on American soil. A man-child in high school, he could have been one of the best players ever. He was the most talented runner I’ve ever seen. Barry Switzer, Fred Akers, Lou Holtz and a host of others would possibly agree. One of the most recruited players in college football history, Dupree was courted by 300 schools—the maximum—he said. Looking at his touchdown highlights, it’s easy to believe. Too bad he couldn’t avoid the traps of the college game.Stephen Dunn/Getty ImagesOver the years, superlative Nebraska I-backs could run the counter trap or sweep to perfection. I-backs such as the great Bobby Reynolds, Tony Davis, Ahman Green and Lawrence Phillips did it. Some I-backs had flashier names than others.Isaiah Moses Walter Hipp—I.M. Hipp—was just the fourth Husker ever to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Reynolds (1,342 in 1950) was the first to Reebok Oakland Raiders #21 Nnamdi Asomugha Realtree camo Jerseydo it. Kinney (1,136 in 1971) and Tony Davis (1,114 in 1973) were the other two.Redwine was a viable Heisman Trophy candidate, according to Tom Osborne in 1979. Osborne was quoted as saying Redwine was the most talented Husker since Johnny Rodgers.A combination wide receiver, returner, halfback, flankeror "wingback," Johnny "The Jet" won the Heisman in ’72. A Heisman winner in 1983, Rozier won it by breaking Reynolds’ single season rushing record by almost double the yardage gained.Mike Rozier is the best running back in Nebraska’s history—period. It’s harder to pick the best running back from Oklahoma.Indeed, OU’s tailback factory has outproduced Nebraska’s since WWII ended. Oklahoma was the dominant team of the era, going on a 47-game winning streak soon after the international fighting stopped.Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesIts tailback factory mass-produced runners for their mighty 1950s run. On the flip side, 1940 was Nebraska’s last winning season until Reynolds arrived. He is listed as NU’s all-time running back, along with Mike Rozier.Oklahoma had more All-American tailbacks than Nebraska, and its tailbacks have played better in the NFL. The Sooners also own the advantage (3-1) in the number of Heisman Trophy winners at the tailback position.USC and Ohio State are tied for the most (four), but Archie Griffin won it twice for the Buckeyes (1974-75). Eddie George (1995) and Howard Cassady (1955) were the other Buckeye halfback Heisman winners.Ohio State has two more Heisman winners who were part=time halfbacks—Les Horvath (1944) and Vic Janowicz (1950).Results:The data suggests Oklahoma is more of a running back factory than Nebraska. In your opinion, which college football program, including the Sooners and Huskers, produced the best running backs?

19 Dec 10 Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons: A Falcons Fan Wonders, 'What If...

Chris McGrath/Getty ImagesAs I sat watching Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles destroy the Washington Redskins on Monday, I couldn't help but think to myself, "Why couldn't you do this when you were with Atlanta, Mike?" Now, for Atlanta, the situation seems to have worked out. For all we know, Matt Ryan could become the face of the NFL. He is far more advanced as a third-year player than Vick ever was in his six seasons with the Falcons. Vick could also completely flame-out for the remainder of this season and his career, as Reebok Baltimore Ravens #27 Ray Rice Realtree camo Jersey
unlikely as it currently seems. But, as I watched Vick play as the unstoppable force everyone in Atlanta hoped he would become, I couldn't help but feel a little sad. Maybe even a bit angry. It's not the felony dog-fighting charges that landed him in prison I'm upset with. Everyone makes mistakes. Vick's were obviously extremely heinous, and many will never forgive him, which is their right. I can let that go, though. I understand that Vick grew up without a real father-figure in his life, in one of the worst areas of the country. There were highly negative influences all around him. In some ways, it's a small miracle that he made it out of there alive. It was bizarre seeing Vick in the Georgia Dome wearing an Eagles uniform.Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesAlso, how many people do you think ever said "No" to Michael Vick, knowing how much money he would one day be worth? If you watched his 60 Minutes interview from over a year ago, you heard Vick describe how he was first taken to a dog fight when he was seven years old, presumably by someone he looked up to. He also explained how police did not break up dog fights, even when they were happening out in the open, adding to the feeling that it was okay to be involved with it. It was also Vick who reached out to the Humane Society while in prison and it is Vick who is doing his best to educate younger people in an attempt to prevent them from making the same mistakes he did. For these reasons, I have been able to give him a pass on that one. It is not about what he did in the past, but what he does from here on out in regards to that. Where my problem comes from is that Vick has admitted to terrible work habits in his time with the Falcons. In his own words, he was the "last guy in and the first guy out." I, for one, and I know there were many others, defended Vick for his inconsistent play just about everyday to friends, coworkers, fellow students, you name it. The Falcons missed Vick in 2007, but have become a very good team since then.Chris Graythen/Getty ImagesIf you spent any time on the Atlanta Falcons message boards during his time there, you know just how polarizing the man was. I would tell anyone who would listen that the players around him weren't any good. It's the coaching. It's the schemes. It's the schedule, it's not fair. I would say these things to anybody who dared to question Vick, blinded by his potential. Looking back, it was quite clear that Vick was not well-prepared; his make-the-first-read-then-take-off-running quarterbacking was certainly exciting, but it reeked of a player who was not watching enough film. In his defense, it is strangely more understandable for a player with his athletic ability to have poor work habits. Reebok Baltimore Ravens #52 Ray Lewis Realtree camo Jersey
Defensive players probably never laid a hand on him in high school, and college came just as easy. He likely thought it would be more of the same in the NFL. Hey, at times it was. Players are quick to find, though, that you can't get by on ability alone in professional football. It's a whole different animal and you are not bigger, stronger and faster than everybody else like you were at the lower levels. Vick's play was so exciting that it blinded many of us to the fact that he was unprepared as a quarterback.Jim McIsaac/Getty ImagesVince Young and Reggie Bush are two other recent players who had to learn this the hard way. Still, the Atlanta organization bent over backwards for Mike Vick, similar to what the Cleveland Cavaliers did for LeBron James. What Falcon fan can forget the image of owner Arthur Blank wheeling his quarterback around in a wheelchair when Vick broke his leg? The Falcons went through a string of quarterback coaches in an attempt at getting Vick to be more accurate, and the hiring of Bobby Petrino was specifically made so that the coach could take him to the next level. Petrino said the only reason he took the job was to coach Vick. Once he was gone, so was Petrino, quitting in the middle of the season. If you include their trade with Buffalo for Peerless Price, the Falcons spent three straight first-round picks on receivers, the other two being Michael Jenkins and Roddy White. Still, the argument was that Vick had no receivers. Price is out of the league, but Jenkins has become a solid possession receiver and White is currently playing at an out of this world level. It's no longer a valid excuse. Thank God for Matt Ryan.Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesI forgive Vick for all his transgressions. He was a young man who was Reebok Chicago Bears #54 Brian Urlacher Realtree camo Jersey
clearly misguided and needed to learn some lessons in an extremely hard fashion. He's finally proving me right, but it's for the wrong team. The Eagles knocked the Falcons out of the playoffs in both of their appearances with Vick at quarterback, making it a funny twist when he signed with them. Again, I cannot express how happy I am with the direction of this Atlanta team in 2010. They appear to be a team that will contend for many, many years. Vick's Falcons jersey is still the only one I own, however, something I obviously need to update. Every time I look at it, though, I can't help but wonder, "What if?"

18 Dec 10 Chicago Bears vs. the Minnesota Vikings Game Review

Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesThe 3-5 Minnesota Vikings travelled to Soldier Field to take on the 5-3 Chicago Bearslast Sunday afternoon in a game that promised to be good one. The Bears had been doing things much better on offense since the second half of their game against the Redskins a few weeks back. However, beatingthe Buffalo Bills the week before, the weakest team in the NFL, hadn’t proven much. The Vikings had many problems coming into this game and by the time it started, both wide receivers Sidney Rice and Reebok Dallas Cowboys #82 Jason Witten Realtree camo Jersey
Bernard Berrian were on the sidelines. Could the Vikings win this game and keep their slim playoff hopes alive or were the Bears primed to beat the Vikings and continue on a path towards the playoffs. It ended up being the latter as the Bears stymied the Vikings last few remaining playoff hopes by beating them 27-13. This was a well-played game for the Bears and a much needed win to help them keep up with the Packers and hold a share of the lead in the NFC North.Scoring SummaryThe Vikings got the first score of the game after the Bear’s defense shut them out of the end zone on their first drive of the game after it appeared as if Minnesota was going to go in and score a touchdown. They held the Vikings to a 36-yard field goal to make it 3-0 early. In the second quarter, after the Vikings Ryan Longwell missed a field goal, the Bears took over and drove down the field to go up by four after quarterback Jay Cutler hit tight end Greg Olsen for a 17-yard score. Are you surprised the Bears won this game? Are you surprised the Bears won this game?Yes17.0%No83.0%Total votes: 88The Vikings wouldn’t go without a score for too long and they would go up 10-7 after quarterback Brett Favre hit wide receiver, Percy Harvin, for a 53 yard score. Chicago would answer on the next drive after a nice kickoff return by wide receiver Rashied Davis to give the Bears good field position. Even though they had several penalties on the drive, the Bears still managed to take the ball down the field to score. Their score came after Cutler hit wide receiver Devin Hester for a 19-yard touchdown to put the Bears up 14-10 heading into halftime. The Vikings turned the ball over after Favre had a tipped pass intercepted by cornerback, D.J. Moore. The Bears turned it into three points on a 34-yard field goal by kicker, Robbie Gould, to make it 17-10.Following a long pass-interference penalty, the Vikings got a 33-yard Longwell field goal to bring them to within four and make it 17-13. The Bears, following a great return by Hester, would add three on a 37-yard field goal by Gould to make it 20-13. The Bears would make it a two-possession game after Cutler tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to little used tight end Kellen Davis to make it 27-13 in the fourth quarter. That is how the game would end.Stud of the GameIt’s hard to find any one single guy that stuck out in this game because most everyone did a good job, but you have to give a lot of credit to Hester in this game. Not only did he catch a touchdowns pass, but he also had a lot of return yards in this game and those return yards helped the Bears get good field position and win this game. Without his returns in the second half, the Bears might have lost this game.Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesDud of the GameThere is no one really to find at fault in this game, unless you dig deep and even though he did a good job at blocking for the most part, J’Marcus Webb had some critical penalties at critical times during the game and could have cost the Bears some points. He settled down in the second half and was much more disciplined but he struggled to start the game. Hopefully he gets better.AnalysisDepending on who you read or Reebok Dallas Cowboys #9 Tony Romo Realtree camo Jersey
talked to before this game, the Bears either had a chance to win this game or didn’t. There were many people that felt that Favre would be able to use his “magic” to bring the Vikings back towards the playoffs and beat the Bears on their way to a miracle turnaround. It wasn’t meant to be, however, as Minnesota was clearly outplayed by the Bears in this game.It is clear that the Bears have been working hard in practice to scale back the offense, improve their blocking and make sure that Cutler doesn’t make a lot of mistakes (despite the fact the threw two picks one wasn’t his fault). With the offensive line blocking much better than they have for a better part of the season, the receivers running better routes and the running game working, things are finally starting to come together for the Bears. The Bears did many things right in this game. Running the ball was something they had to do and they did that. They kept the passing game going using short quick drops and roll-outs and that worked very well. The offensive line kept Cutler upright (only one sack allowed) and this has made things run so much smoother for the Bears.Jonathan Daniel/Getty ImagesWith the offense finally getting going the Bears defense is capable of playing much better as well because they don’t have to spend so much time on the field (because the offense was unable to keep a hold of the ball and could not convert third down opportunities). That keeps them fresh and ready to go during the game and we saw what a fresh and rested Bears defense could do this past Sunday.Chicago’s defense keyed in on the Vikings running game and shut it down which was a huge piece of the puzzle in winning this game. Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had torn Chicago up in the past (and even when the Bears contained him he still managed to score touchdowns in short yardage situation) and the Bears kept him under wraps and didn’t allow him to pile up the yards or the touchdowns. Their tackling was very good and they didn’t allow him to break into the secondary and gain a lot of yards. The Bears pass coverage was also pretty good for the most part. They did have some key pass interference penalties that helped the Vikings get the ball down the field but they tightened things up and played pretty well after those penalties. They covered the short passes very well and were able to keep receivers from catching the Reebok Denver Broncos #15 Tim Tebow Realtree camo Jersey
ball at times. Of course, the Bears secondary also got some turnovers which helped them out greatly. We can’t go on much further in this without talking about Hester and his play on special teams. He put the Bears' offense in great field position throughout the game and showed everyone where he belongs. The only mystery here is why the Vikings kept on kicking to Hester. It made many wonder if the Vikings thought that they were much better than they were on special teams? At any rate, they got burned badly by Hester. Perhaps this will serve notice to other teams not to kick to him and provide the Bears with good field position that way as.Next UpThe Bears will have a short week as they will travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins this Thursday night. A full preview of this game will be coming in the next two days.

17 Dec 10 Cincinnati Bengals Continue Downward Spiral Against Buffalo

Andy Lyons/Getty ImagesThe Cincinnati Bengals are taking their losing ways to entirely new levels after their epic collapse Sunday against the Buffalo Bills, one of the NFL's worst teams heading into the weekend. The Bengals, who have now dropped seven consecutive games, have fallen so far below expectations this season that calling them a disappointment would be an understatement.Quite frankly it'd be an injustice to the word "disappointment".Cincinnati started off on fire, jumping out to a 28-7 lead in the first half. However, the Reebok Washington Redskins #98 ORAKPO Realtree camo Jersey
Bengals were absolutely and completely embarrassed in the second half by an apparently more talented and complete team. The Bills, who entered the weekend 1-8 and coming off their first victory of the season last weekend, dropped 35 unanswered points in the second half en route to their massacring of the Bengals. To make matters even worse for Cincinnati, the embarrassing collapse occurred at home and at the first game the team failed to sellout since 2003.There are plenty of areas on the team where you can toss your blame, as virtually no one has lived up to expectations this season for a team that dominated the NFC North last season by going 6-0 in divisional play.Terrell Owens is the only player on the offensive side of the ball having a standout year, and that is only because he is clearly and obviously the number one target since joining the team. While he has been apparently great off the field by not causing any distractions, he could be hurting the team overall on the field. What do you think the Bengals should do with their roster to improve in the offseason? What do you think the Bengals should do with their roster to improve in the offseason?Massive Overhaul78.3%New coach, same key players17.4%Same coach, new key players0.0%Minor changes2.2%No real changes2.2%Total votes: 46While it was Chad Ochocinco who helped land T.O. a job with the Bengals, it came at the expense of one of his worst statistical starts to a season in his career. He has also visibly shown his frustrations on the field several times this season when the ball isn't coming his way for long periods and in key moments.Their defense is also atrocious this season, as almost every opponent they have faced has dropped 20 or more points on them, with the only exceptions being in their two victories. While obviously every player in the NFL is extremely talented at what they do as a whole when it comes to playing their sport, clearly some of the Bengals are forgetting how to play football, or care so Reebok Pittsburgh Steelers 43 Troy Polamalu Realtree camo Jersey
little about their jobs that they have just quit caring entirely. While I have always supported Carson Palmer and liked him during his time in the NFL, despite a personal dislike for almost every player to ever come out of USC, I can no longer make a real argument as to why he is a starter for a franchise that should compete for the postseason annually, yet always falls tragically short of expectations. He can be good at times, and has shown on occasions that he has the potential to be an elite QB in the NFL, but as a whole his career in Cincinnati has to be considered a massive disappointment.Marvin Lewis will likely be gone as head coach after this season, and while the teams collapse is nowhere near being completely his fault, it has become apparent that he can no longer lead this group of players and be successful on a regular basis.I would expect major changes to come in Cincinnati during the offseason, and wouldn't be surprised if some of their top players (C. Palmer, Ochocinco, Owens) are removed from the team.Palmer is clearly showing he can't be "that guy" to take Cincinnati to the next level where they are considered legitimate threats in the postseason each year, and I would hope and think the front office will consider drafting a quarterback early in the 2011 Draft.Ochocinco is one of those players that has been solid for the same team during his entire career, but also one that is in obvious need of a change of scenery. Whether it is the coaching, the offensive scheme or the obviously inept and erratic quarterback play within the Bengals organization, I think it would be best for both parties if there was a change in scenery in the offseason moving forward.T.O. could potentially retire after this season considering his age and the Reebok Green Bay Packers 21 Charles Woodson Realtree camo Jersey
fact that he barely found a job this season, but he could also easily be back in Cincinnati for another year or two or playing for another team. He clearly isn't to the point where he is only on the field to "be on the field" (i.e. he isn't embarrassing himself despite older age just to continue to get paid), and could go at least one more season, if not longer.Regardless of what changes are made in the offseason, it is clear that there needs to be a massive overhaul for the franchise on both sides of the football and also on the sidelines. There are plenty of talented players in Cincinnati, however, until some of the key pieces on the team are changed, the Bengals will never be able to capitalize on all of their talent.

16 Dec 10 Oakland Raiders Need a Little Love and a Powerful Pep Talk To Prep For Miami

Jared Wickerham/Getty ImagesAfter looking at a video on , a bright idea came to mind. There is so much criticism in the atmosphere, after last week's heartbreaker, that I thought it would be a good idea to show a little love to the Oakland Raiders.Someone presented their teacher with Reebok New Orleans Saints #9 Drew Brees Realtree camo Jersey
flowers. It was a surprise to the teacher because the grades for the students have not been too good on the past few quizzes. The topics are getting tougher and the weak students are falling by the wayside.Well, the competition is getting tougher for the Oakland Raiders. Falling by the wayside is not an option. Hanging in there, executing those plays and winning is what we expect to happen.Tough love is good, but try "a little tenderness" just might be the right medicine for a tense situation. Here is our tenderness: We really appreciate the joy of those three consecutive wins, Oakland Raiders. Those wins woke up a deep love for you, and those of us who were sitting close to the end zone got a kick out of hugging you when you got those touchdowns. As Ray Charles would say, "Here we go again. We are believing in you, one more time.As Marvin Gaye would say, "Let's get it on."The idea: Try a little tenderness and continue to fill up the stadium.Again, what we are saying is that the Oakland Raidersget in the groove and give us those consecutive wins. One more quote isfroma song that probably inspired some of the great Oakland Raiders in the past:"I heard it through the grapevine" that some believe that the Miami Dolphins perform powerfully when on the road.Well, this time we want to change the rumor and tell you that the Oakland Raiders will and must perform more powerfully at home.I've got to go now and continue to listen to the old songs that fired us up to become the folks we are in our senior years. We believe that the Oakland Raiders are responding to the tender love and care of the Raider Nation. We are going to fill the stadium. Right? We are going to continue pulling for our team and stand with them, throughReebok New York Jets #6 Mark Sanchez Realtree camo Jersey

Green Bay Packers Notebook: Tough Road Lies Ahead, Aaron Rodgers Isn't Clutch?

Kevin C. Cox/Getty ImagesThe Green Bay Packers loss to the Atlanta Falcons Sunday was far from a season-ender, but it most likely knocked the Packers out of the running for home field advantage and made the road to even make the playoffs a bit more iffy then a week ago. The Falcons now own the best record in the NFC at 9-2, and the Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday to improve to 8-3—a full game and a half above the Packers (7-4) atop the NFC North. That presents the Packers some problems as they face Steelers 36 Bettis Jersey
their final five games of the 2010 season. First off, the Bears now have to be considered front-runners in the NFC North. No matter what reservations people have about how good Chicago is, their victory Sunday was as impressive as any the Packers have had this season, and their win over Green Bay earlier this season ensures they have the tie-breaker at this point. The Packers and Bears have comparable schedules here on out as well. Green Bay's final five games are as follows: San Francisco (3-7 as of Sunday), at Detroit (2-9), at New England (9-2), New York (7-4), and Chicago (8-3). That equates to a cumulative record of 29-25 for the Packers last five opponents. Chicago faces a similarly tough schedule. They start at Detroit next week, and follow that with games against New England, at Minnesota (4-7), New York Jets (9-2), then at Green Bay. Overall, the Bears final five opponents are 31-23. How Will the Packers Finish the Regular Season? How Will the Packers Finish the Regular Season?Win the NFC North52.9%Wildcard Spot31.1%Miss the Playoffs16.0%Total votes: 238But let's say for a moment that the Packers don't win the NFC North—a very real possibility at this point. Securing a playoff spot via a wildcard slot could prove to be just as difficult, as the NFC has seven playoff quality teams with only six available spots—one of which has to go to NFC West winner where none of the four teams has a winning record. So if Chicago takes the North, that leaves only four remaining playoff spots. The Eagles and Giants will both fight for the NFC East, and with both teams at 7-4, the loser of that race is still in line to take a wildcard spot. The Falcons, Saints (9-3), and Buccaneers (7-4) will fight to be the NFC South champion, but even the two losers of that race are in good position to secure the last wildcard spot. The harsh reality is that if the season ended today, the Packers would be out of the playoffs. Another fact is that the Packers have a tough road ahead if they plan on changing that former reality. Another Aaron Rodgers Comeback Thwarted While the assumption around many Packers' fans is that Aaron Rodgers isn't a "clutch quarterback," that assessment couldn't be farther off the mark. In fact, a much fairer assumption of that argument would be to say that Rodgers is clutch, but also terribly unlucky. For anyone that still doesn't share my opinion, let me show all the examples of what I mean. 2008 Packers-Titans: Rodgers ties the undefeated Titans at 16 in the fourth quarter only to have defense give up a field goal on first possesion of overtime. Packers-Vikings: Vikings go up 28-27 late in the fourth, but Rodgers drives the Packers into field goal range. Mason 4 Brett Favre Purple jersey
Crosby misses a 52-yard field goal. Packers-Panthers: Rodgers drives team to a field goal under two minutes to put Packers up 31-28, only to have the defense give up winning touchdown. Packers-Texans: Rodgers ties the game at 21 with a touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson, but Texans proceed to drive down the field and kick the winning field with no time left. Packers-Jaguars: Packers go up 16-14 on a late field goal in the fourth quarter, but Jags drive for winning touchdown with under two minutes left. Packers-Bears: Rodgers drives the Packers into field goal range with 18 seconds to go in a tied game, but Crosby's kick is blocked. Chicago wins in overtime. 2009 Packers-Steelers: Rodgers leads the Packers back from 10 down, throwing a touchdown pass to James Jones that puts Green Bay up 36-30. Steelers march right down the field and hit the game-winning touchdown with no time left. Rodgers should tune out all the "unclutch" talk.Scott Boehm/Getty ImagesPackers-Cardinals: Again, Rodgers leads the Packers back from a big deficit in his first ever playoff game. This time down 21 points, Rodgers throws his fourth touchdown pass to force overtime. Unfortunately, a scoop and score ends the Packers season in OT, even though a face mask penalty probably should have been called. 2010 Packers-Bears: Rodgers gives the Packers a fourth quarter lead, but a late fumble and defensive penalties help the Bears beat Green Bay on a late field goal. Packers-Redskins: Washington ties the score at 13 late in the fourth, but Rodgers leads Green Bay into field goal range. Crosby's 53-yard try clanked off the upright, however, and the 'Skins kicked a field goal in OT. Packers-Dolphins: Rodgers ties the game at 20 late in the fourth, but a three-and-out leads to the Dolphins kicking the game winning field goal in overtime. Packers-Falcons: A late touchdown pass from Rodgers ties the game at 17, but two special teams blunders lead to the Falcons kicking the game winner before the game hits OT. Sorry, that got redundant in a hurry. But it's important that Packers fans have a clear understanding that the "not clutch" assumption of Aaron Rodgers is very inaccurate. And truth be told, Rodgers was at fault in some of the games I mentioned. But the fact remains that Rodgers has been very, very unlucky in so many of his comeback attempts. If just a few of these games went Rodgers' and the Packers' way, everyone would have a much different take on the "clutchness" of our quarterback. Offensive Play-Calling Had Some Twists and Turns The Packers offense showed us three wrinkles Sunday that we had previously seen little or not at all this season: a flea flicker, the hurry up offense, and the "Big Five" set. First off, the flea flicker was a great call. On a third and one play, the Packers seemingly ran a pitch out a single back set—a play Green Bay has run a lot this season. Instead of Brandon Jackson stutter-stepping his way to another loss, however, he pitched the ball back to Rodgers and he delivered a strike to Greg Jennings after some nifty work evading the Falcons rush. The 34-yard gain helped set up the Packers' first touchdown of the game. We also got a brief look at the Packers' hurry-up offense as well. Green Bay ran it on two scoring drives, and it seemed like the Packers' offense was in a good rhythm while running it. Swain was solid in the "Big Five" set Sunday.Joe Murphy/Getty ImagesPackers coach Mike McCarthy felt confident using the up-tempo method. "We felt it's a strength of ours," McCarthy told the press. "We spent a ton of time on no-huddle throughout the spring and throughout the summer. We never got to it early in the season because of all the changes in personnel. We feel it's something we do very well." Hopefully the Packers run more of it as the season progresses, but McCarthy and the offense should also consider running the "Big Five" set more too. Green Bay ran the set a total of 14 times Sunday, and it contributed more then a few positive plays for the offense. Fifth receiver Brett Swain caught two passes for 40 yards, and both James Jones and Jordy Nelson were able to catch passes underneath using the formation. Numerous times the Falcons decided to blitz the set, but Rodgers was solid at finding the hot route against the blitz. If Rodgers can keep making good decisions under heat, and the bottom of Steelers 36 Bettis Jersey
the depth chart at receiver continues making plays, it's a formation the Packers should continue to employ in future games. Shields an Adventure as Kick Returner Sam Shields third go-around as a kick returner was an up-and-down type affair Sunday afternoon. The undrafted rookie did have an electric 37-yard return, where he was probably one tackler-missing away from a touchdown, but he erratically pinned the Packers deep in their territory on his three other returns. On two such returns, Shields unwisely took the ball out of the endzone, and the Packers were forced to start their drive inside their own 20-yard line. His final return, after the Falcons went up by a field goal, would have been a good time for his first career touchdown, but it wasn't to be. Either way, Shields showed both his inexperience and his potential Sunday. As Shields gets more and more opportunities—and I think he should—we'll start to see more of the explosiveness we saw on the 37-yarder then the inexperience he showed on his three other returns. Injury Report Four Packers were hurt Sunday: linebacker Brandon Chillar, specialist Spencer Havner, cornerback Pat Lee and running back Dmitri Nance. Both Chillar (shoulder) and Havner (hamstring) reinjured former injuries, and their status should be considered doubtful moving forward. Chillar has had problems with his shoulder all season, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was placed on injured reserve. Havner re-pulled his hamstring, the same injury that kept him out over a month with the Detroit Lions and ultimately lead to his release. Beating Troy Smith and the 49ers next Sunday is a must for the Packers' playoff chances.Ezra Shaw/Getty ImagesLee appeared to injure his ankle, and Nance suffered a concussion—possibly opening the door for the debut of James Starks, everyone's favorite yet completely unknown Green Bay Packer. Looking Ahead The San Francisco 49ers come to Lambeau Field next Sunday (Dec. 5), and it all of a sudden has turned into a must-win game for the Packers. In fact, for the Packers to have any shot at getting to the playoffs, Green Bay will need to beat both San Francisco and Detroit in their next two Steelers 10 Santonio Holmes jersey
games. That would set up the Packers to most likely be able to afford one loss in their last three games. Because, in my opinion, the Packers have to win four out of their last five to win the division and ensure themselves a spot in the NFC Playoffs. Buckle up Packers fans, these last five games could be a bumpy ride.

NFL Week 13 Preview: Can the Oakland Raiders Cool Down the Red Hot Chargers?

Darren McFadden and Zach Miller need to step up in Week 13. In round two of an AFC West rivalry, the Oakland Raiders will travel to San Diego, in Week 13, to take on the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders are struggling, having lost two in a row, while the Chargers are red Minnesota Vikings jersey
hot, having won their last four.
This is going to be a tough game for the Raiders, who have a 5-6 record, falling below .500. During these last two weeks, the Raiders have looked like the Raiders of old. If they want to keep their chances of making the playoffs alive, Week 13 is a must-win.
During their first matchup in Week 5, the Chargers were killed by mistakes on special teams. The Raiders blocked two punts, with one resulting in a safety and the other being returned for a touchdown by Hiram Eugene.
A key factor in Week 5 was the running game. Michael Bush filled in for Darren McFadden and ran for just over 100 yards and a touchdown. The running game will be a huge factor in Week 13 as well.
McFadden has totaled just 16 rushing yards in the last two games, and it is pivotal that the Raiders get him going early and often against the Chargers this Sunday.
The Chargers give up the third least rushing yards per game. The Raiders have a tough task ahead of them because their main strength is running the football.
Despite the two-game losing streak, there might be nfl jerseys
some good news for Raider Nation. Jason Campbell returns as the starting quarterback this week, due to an injured Bruce Gradkowski. Campbell filled in for Gradkowski in Week 5, and led the Raiders to a 35-27 victory.
Campbell was 13-of-19 for 159 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions in Week 5. If the Raiders want to slow down the Chargers, Campbell must play mistake-free football as he did in Week 5.
The wild cards in this game will be the play of rookie Jacoby Ford and tight end Zach Miller.
Ford will be big both on special teams and as a receiver. Ford has stepped up for the Raiders in recent weeks returning kicks for touchdowns and also catching touchdowns.
Miller has been the most effective receiver Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
for the Raiders, but he has been a ghost in recent weeks, totaling just four catches in his last three games.
That must change in Week 13 in order for the Raiders to sweep the Chargers.

The Chargers, however, have fallen victim to poor special teams play and costly turnovers. If they take care of the football and play well on special teams, they should have an excellent opportunity to keep their playoff hopes alive.San Diego was torched on the ground last week, but it has proven that it can stop the run. In fact, the Chargers rank fifth in the league in run defense, yielding only 95.2 yards per game on the ground. In the season’s first meeting San Diego outgained Kansas City 389-197, but it didn’t take care of business on special teams. A Dexter McCluster punt return proved to be the difference in the game.Defensively, the Chiefs have struggled to defend the pass. Pittsburgh Steelers Myron Cope Pete Rozell Radio award

Colts jersey
Long time Pittsburgh Steelers announcer, Myron Cope, will be heading to Canton later this summer. Although the NFL Hall of Fame does not induct members of the media, Myron Cope will be present at the induction ceremony in early August so that he can accept the Pete Rozell 10 Santonio Holmes black jersey
Television-Radio award. According to media relations director Joe Horrigan, the award recognizes "long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football." Cope recently retired after 35 years of loyal service as the analyst for Pittsburgh Steelers radio broadcasts. His off-beat vocals made him a sports icon in the steel city, and he is credited with creating the "terrible towels" that are used by Steelers faithful at home games. The 76 year old announcer will be presented with his award at the Enshrinees Dinner on August 6th, during the annual Hall of Fame Enshrinement Weekend celebration.

San Francisco 49ers Mike McCarthy Green Bay Packers

Despite the San Francisco 49ers' season being over, the team suffered another loss on Wednesday as the Green Bay Packers chose 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy to be their future coach. McCarthy who joined the 49ers staff after working with Saints is known for his ability to develop quarterbacks 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey
and has worked wonders in the past in developing successful offenses. The hiring of McCarthy is further proof that 49ers head coach Mike Nolan did an excellent job of assembling his staff last season. The loss of McCarthy from the 49ers though, leaves a glaring hole in the coaching staff. McCarthy's strength in quarterback development will also be missed as the team tries to groom Alex Smith into the future star at quarterback for San Francisco. McCarthy had worked with quarterbacks like Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Rich Gannon, Elvis Grbac, Jake Delhomme, Marc Bulger, and Aaron Brooks among others. His experience with these players was expected to be a huge asset for the 49ers as they groom their quarterback of the future. Now the team must find a successor at offensive coordinator, and may look for further assistance at quarterback coach where Jim Hostler is currently in place. Although Hostler was involved in the development of Chad Pennington he is greatly inexperienced compared to McCarthy and other quarterback coaches the 49ers have had in the past.My gut feeling is that the San Francisco 49ers will examine the possibility of returning Tom Rathman to their coaching staff as an offensive coordinator. Rathman was highly coveted by Nolan last off-season but due to contract stipulation could not leave Detroit where Rathman moved with Steve Mariucci prior to the Dennis Erickson era in San Francisco. It is feasible that Rathman, who is now available and not tied to the Lions, could return to the 49ers – and at this point could move to the offensive coordinator position. There are of course two risks associated with such a move. First, Rathman who is a very strong running backs coach - as well as a very intense and passionate individual - has zero experience as an offensive coordinator. Naturally this means adding Rathman to the staff could upset the synergy on the team that Nolan had worked very hard to develop. It may also stifle some of the continuity that really good teams manage to develop over time. The second issue is that Rathman would not bring an experienced quarterback developer to the 49ers – although depending on who else the team considers, they may not be able to 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey black jersey
bring in a quarterback developer of this magnitude this season. It will be very interesting to see how the 49ers address the holes left by McCarthy's departure. Unfortunately for the 49ers, his sole departure seems to have left two openings in the coaching staff. Of course, I wish McCarthy the best in his new position; I just wish he could have stuck around with the team a little longer. For all the latest news and resources about the 49ers please visit 49ersparadise.com - you can also contact Bryan Hersh from there.

San Francisco 49ers "Winds of change have blown through"

Nine months ago, I was hired by RealFootball365 to cover the San Francisco 49ers -- a football team I knew very little about. Oh sure, I knew certain players and was aware of the team's coach, but I was unaware of the intricacies of the 49ers.Over the course of Jets 6 Sanchez Jersey
the nine months, however, I learned quite a bit. After I took over the beat writing duties and began submitting five columns a week, I learned even more...call it a crash course in 49eromics. While I still don't know the team inside and out the way the most passionate fans do, I feel much more comfortable making statements and forming opinions about the players and coaches than I once did. I even developed a bit of a soft spot for a team that ripped my 10-year-old heart out back in Super Bowl XXIII -- something I never thought would happen.Prior to their 2006 rejuvenation, the Niners were still in the initial stages of rebuilding, and to be honest, they were not a very fun team to watch. They had a new coaching staff that had the unenviable job of pulling the franchise out of the hole Dennis Erickson put it in and restocking the roster with coachable talent. The 49ers had a rookie quarterback who looked confused and even frightened at times. A mediocre (at best) receiving corps. And a defense with more holes than the hat Davy Crockett wore at the Alamo. What a difference a year makes, eh? What was once a struggling franchise is now a legitimate playoff contender, and possibly even a Super Bowl team if it jells properly and gets hot at the right time. The talent level has been substantially raised across the board, especially on offense, and the team is fun to watch again.Like Rocky said after he KO'd Ivan Drago: "If I can change...and you can change...EVERYBODY can change!"Quarterback:Alex Smith is the same person he was in 2005, yet he's not the same player -- not by a long shot. The nervous kid who literally had an 11-to-1 interception-to-touchdown ratio his rookie year improved in leaps and bounds last season, prompting me to compare him to Troy Aikman on more than one occasion. In my years of watching football and actually understanding the nuances of the game, I have seen many young quarterbacks have that one game where everything seemed to click. Occasionally, it's a bona fide harbinger of greatness like Carson Palmer against Baltimore in 2004 and Vince Young rallying the troops against the Giants last year (maybe). Then again, just as often (and maybe more so) it's the first upswing in an erratic career, such as Michael Vick's performance in Green Bay in the playoffs and Eli Manning's four-touchdown, no-interception performance versus St. Louis in 2005. You just never know.Smith had his "I get it now" game on a cold, nasty December night in Seattle. In the fourth quarter of that contest, Smith played like a much younger, less-botoxed Steve Young, and he looked like he would end up living up to the pressure-laden title of No. 1 draft pick. Of course, he 4 Brett Favre White jersey
went out the next week and laid an egg in a must-win contest against the Cardinals and followed that up with a shaky but solid performance to top the Broncos in the final game of the year. The point is, I have no idea where Smith is headed, but it looks like he has a chance to turn into an upper-tier NFL quarterback. He certainly has the weapons to thrive; and at the very least, he should be a very solid player for the next 10 to 12 years with a Madden rating ranging between 87 and 93.Running back:Oh sure, Frank Gore isn't really a home-run threat (seriously, how many times was he caught from behind?), but thanks to his absurd combination of initial burst, power, vision and quick ankles, he still manages to break off two to three big runs a game. It's possible he caught the league off-guard like Hideo Nomo back in '95, and it'll catch up to him this year, but I just don't see that happening.Regardless, he's still head and shoulders above his predecessor. In fact, comparing Gore to Kevan Barlow is like comparing a bottle of Arrowhead water to a puddle on the ground. Either one serves its purpose (that being hydration), but one is refreshing and pure while the other just might make you sick to your stomach. One last thing here: Can we just go ahead and nickname Frank Gore "The Inconvenient Truth" and beat Joe Buck to it? Please? I don't ask for much.Fullback:Moran Norris is the modern-day Lorenzo Neal. Wait, can we say this with Neal still in the league? Would it be like calling Vince Young the modern-day Steve McNair? Whatever, we're going with it.Wide receiver: Quick multiple-choice question:The difference between Darrell Jackson, Ashley Lelie and Arnaz Battle compared to Rashaun Woods, Cedrick Wilson and Brandon Lloyd is that of:A.) Las Vegas to Atlantic CityB.) Las Vegas to a Texas Hold 'Em tournament in a small-town bingo hallC.) Las Vegas to a slot machine in a gas stationD.) Las Vegas to the handheld poker game in your parents' bathroomTight end Blocker? Present (Billy Bajema).Receiver? Present (Vernon Davis).Superhero? Present (Delanie Walker). Fragile pass catcher? Absent (Eric Johnson).Offensive line The Niners' O-line is arguably the deepest unit on the team, and with the brilliant trade up to select Central Michigan's Joe Staley in the first round last Saturday, now its even better. Other than Larry Allen, who is obviously inhuman (in a good way -- like RoboCop), there is not a single player in the group over the age of 29, though Jonas Jennings will turn 30 in November. Yes, all this change has definitely been a good thing for the 49ers. There is now talent at every position along with excellent coaching on the sidelines. As a direct result, it's a safe bet that an appearance in the playoffs is not far off. Sadly, I will not be around to write about it, as I am leaving like Mary Poppins, only with much less singing and gallivanting with chimney sweeps. Though I have thoroughly enjoyed my time covering the 49ers, personal responsibilities must take precedent. I may still contribute an article from time to time, but this will be my final regular column for RealFootball365. I'm just happy I was able to cover a football team on the beginning ofJets 6 Sanchez Jersey
its return to glory, and I will continue to keep an eye on the 49ers in the future. Thank you for reading, commenting and e-mailing over the past nine months. It has been a pleasure.RealFootball365.com: Where there's never an offseason for football! Tell your friends about us.

Former Tennessee Titans "TE Erron Kinney retires"

Former Tennessee TE Erron Kinney announced his retirement from the NFL on Saturday, ending a productive six-year career marked by injuries. Kinney was released by the Titans in March after he underwent microfracture surgery on his right knee. He finished his career with 178 catches for 1,750 yards 36 Bettis White Jersey
and nine touchdowns. Commentary: After a 58-catch season in 2005, Kinney seemed to be on the verge of an outstanding career. He never did get his knee healthy enough to stay at a high level, though. According to the Nashville City Paper, Kinney is currently a captain with the Gallatin (Tennessee) Fire Department. Fantasy Impact: NoneWhen East Carolina running back Chris Johnson's name was announced as Tennessee's No. 1 selection of last month's NFL draft, a collective moan was barely heard through the other background noise in Radio City Music Hall.Nothing against Johnson himself; most, including franchise defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, vehemently believed the Titans should have taken a top receiver and not another running back; after all, wideout was clearly the team's biggest need entering the draft. Unfortunately, though, the team didn't take a receiver until the fourth round.Additionally, Johnson -- despite his first-round status -- wasn't necessarily a huge name compared to the two backs who went immediately before him -- Felix Jones and Rashard Mendenhall. So that made for the second strike against the Orlando, Fla., native. Not so fast, though, Titans fans. At second glance, Johnson appears far more promising than his small-school stigma may dictate; moreover, he might be the explosive back (and overall athletic threat) the Titans direly need.Last season as a senior, he rushed for almost 110 yards a game (1,423 yards off 236 carries) and 17 scores. His ability to serve as an all-purpose back is also eye-catching: He scored another six times in the passing game and racked up 1,537 non-rushing yards. Simply put, the guy can run and catch. But the biggest difference between current Titans starter LenDale White and Johnson is twofold. First, sheer speed. Johnson was clocked at 4.24 seconds in the 40-yard dash during the scouting combine in February and White is clearly far from that. Second is versatility. The Titans are experimenting with various schemes, and the upcoming rookie appears to be exceeding expectations."We were out there making up routes...I've never had a guy that can do (things Johnson can)," offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said. "You need to be able to take advantage of 4 Brett Favre Purple jersey
the guy because he can do so many things. We'll just see what he can handle."Perhaps Johnson is not only the solution to Tennessee's slow-motion running game woes, but possibly an answer as a receiver. Granted, the Titans still need a burner who stretch the field, but Johnson may end up having better hands than the existing receiver corps. And that's all he would need for now.If he can do the same things in fall camp that he's done in minicamp, expect Tennessee to push Johnson as the offense's new dual threat.

Tennessee Titans "Vince Young not leaving football anytime soon

Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young has set the record straight. He is not retiring from football, nor has he strongly considered it.Commentary: Reacting to an interview on NFL.com that quoted him as saying he pondered quitting the game after his first NFL season, Young decided to clarify the situation."I was never going to quit football,'' 6 Super Bowl Champions jersey black jersey
Young told The Tennessean on Thursday during retired quarterback Steve McNair's annual football camp. "Football, that is my pride and joy, it is my dream. I am playing my dream. And I don't plan on giving that up any time soon."Further, Young indicated that the NFL.com interview was "blown out of proportion. . . I never said I was going to quit football. (Yes) there was a lot of stuff going on in my life, but football is not hard to me. Football is easy. All you have to do is be coachable and use your God-given talent. If it was a thought at all it was just a passing thought for a second.''The Tennessee Titans had one of the NFL's best defenses in 2007 during their 10-6, playoff-bound season, but drama has been building this offseason. For starters, outspoken All-Pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth -- who voiced his displeasure with receiving the franchise tag back in the winter -- worked out with a personal trainer rather than attend Tennessee's minicamp. On a less drama-filled note, the Titans reacquired defensive end Jevon Kearse, one of the organization's greats who spent time with the Eagles but returned to Nashville amid tons of fanfare during free agency. He reportedly looks just as good as he did during his rookie season in 1999, and defensive line coach Jim Washburn says Kearse's work ethic hasn't slowed down a bit.Alas, then there's the whole Pacman Jones fiasco. Of course, Titans fans are just glad he's gone, having been traded to Dallas last month. Not to mention all the team lost during free agency, including defensive ends Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy.In the daytime soap that was Tennessee's offseason, it was difficult to count your blessings and be grateful in what you had. And one person whom head coach Jeff Fisher is likely glad he still has is linebacker Keith Bulluck. The nine-year veteran is and has been simply all over the field, leading the team in tackles for five consecutive regular seasons (2002-2006) and finishing third last year with 88. It's clear he has been an impact player for years, probably 2010 pro bowl Vikings 4 Brett Favre jersey
the most consistent, so don't expect him to backslide in 2008.Furthermore, the ex-Syracuse standout ranked second among all linebackers last season in interceptions, tallying five. Because of his play and leadership, Bulluck's value to the club is immense. With all that's going on in Tennessee, one thing fans can rely on this season is Bulluck, who has been the franchise's rock throughout this decade.
